Question posted on Yahoo! Answers: If god already knows everything why would he create people knowing they would go to hell? if god knows everything then he knows who and who isn’t going to hell. why would he create people knowing they would ultimately make choices that would send them to burn for eternity? i don’t believe in the christian god personally but i was wondering if someone could explain this.

Pro 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

Rom 9:22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
Rom 9:23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory–

God has a purpose for everything including a purpose for the wicked (the people who go to hell) so He creates them for the purpose that He has planned and Romans 9:22-23 explains further. He has created them so that His glory in the believers will be known. Displaying the wicked lets His glory be displayed all the more because we can see the difference between His glory and the wicked. It also shows His wrath and power when He has endured with much patience the wicked.

That is a REALLY good question. The question behind it is: “is God good?” I think the answer to the ultimate question is yes, God is good. The how and why of it all is worth putting a lot of thought into.

Here is my short answer that hopefully won’t open another can of worms. :o) “if god knows everything then he knows who and who isn’t going to hell. why would he create people knowing they would ultimately make choices that would send them to burn for eternity?” First of all, God knows everything but not things that aren’t knowable. God set things up in such a way that people would be created with the ability to choose. And so, until they start making decisions, their end or outcome isn’t knowable. God surely knows way before anyone else, but there’s nothing I can see in the Bible suggesting that that is decided before they are born.

As far as your questions go, I agree with you. Only I want to say this to you: “the Christian god” is not who you think He is. He is both completely appealing and loving AND He deserves your life. I don’t even know if you’ll see this answer, but if so, feel free to send me a private email and we can dialogue directly and on specific questions or concerns. It’s worth your time to rethink this stuff. micahthesewell@gmail.com
