I read Psalm 50 yesterday and wanted to mention something from it. I frequently think about how the things we do glorify God. Our motives often get in the way. Psalm 50 rips into our self righteous sacrifices, then points at our hearts:
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,
and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Ps 50:14-15)
Give glory to God today by thanking Him, doing what we know we are to do, and by trusting Him and calling on Him when you have a need. Watch for His deliverance and glorify Him in your praise.

I was busy today and didn’t even open up my Bible.
Glad there is grace.
Anyone out there? Helloooooo? What are you reading this week?

I to have been remiss in my reading of scripture as of late. I took your lead and just read Psalm 50. I am humbled by my humanity. My life seems so busy and so crowded with tasks and responsibilities.
Yet God is above all of that. He isn’t slowed down by the routine of the day. He sits upon His throne constantly and does all of His work without fail.
Another thing that gripped me here is that God doesn’t need our sacrifices. In Israel’s case, they didn’t need to sacrifice bulls to feed God. God said that if He was hungry, He would get His own food. The point of this passage was that the heart in which sacrifice is given is of the utmost importance.
Are you serving to satisfy God’s needs or are you serving with a heart of thanksgiving? Does God need you to teach Sunday School? Does God need you to be a greeter? Does God need you to preach? NO!
But He calls you to do it anyway. Why? To bring Him glory. To bring you, His child, into relationship with Him and to make you a part of His grandiose plan. We are privileged to be a small part of God’s work. Our attitude should be one of thankfulness and humility.

Danny:
A kind word of warning at the top of your posts would be appreciated :) if you plan to do the prophet thing. I refer to your statement:
Are you serving to satisfy God’s needs or are you serving with a heart of thanksgiving?
Ouch. Thanks. I needed that.
I read over Psalm 51 a couple of times this morning. I always get hung up in the middle, mostly because the words get all musical in there and I hear Keith Green singing verses 10-12. But at the end these words pop up:
15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Thanksgiving & Praise. I think this is especially true for us, since the Sacrifice is already done. All we have left to do is thanksgiving & praise, and then He leads us to into service.

Steve,
I tend to start speaking to all people in general when I comment. I was not calling you out specifically. If you’re convicted, then it’s for you from the Spirit, but I didn’t get the feeling for myself that that word was for you specifically. I do think we all need to hear it to some degree.
